Windows XP Auto Login Help


To help with loggin into Windows XP configure Windows to automate the logon process. You will only be able to do this if your Windows XP workstation is not part of a domain. When windows XP is configured in a business environment you must eneter a password for security reasons.
  1. Click Start , click Run , and type control userpasswords2 . This is a shortcut instead of having to click on Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts .
  2. Uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box.
  3. Click Apply .
  4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK .
  5. Click OK again and you're all done.
This feature allows other users to start your computer and use the account that you establish to automatically log on. Enabling auto logon makes your computer more convenient to use, but can pose a security risk since anyone can just turn the machine on and access your files .

How To Setup Folder View in Windows XP

Here is a great little Windows XP tip to help change the way a user is viewing their folder

  • Open any folder then go to "Tools" icon and click on it.
  • Click on "Folder Options" icon, it will a small window with several tabs.
    Then click on "View" tab it will bring another window.
  • Scroll down all the way bottom and uncheck the 6th item from the bottom which is "Remember each folder's view settings"

Change Windows XP Start Menu to Calssic View

  • To change to the "Classic" Start menu, right-click the Start Button
  • Click Properties
  • Click the radio button in front of Classic Start menu
  • Click Apply and OK .
  • To disable the use of Personalized Menus
  • Right-click Start
  • Click Properties -> Customize , and at the bottom of the Advanced Start menu options box, uncheck Use Personalized Menus

Customize your desktop's background in Windows XP

  1. Click Start , and then click Control Panel .
  2. Click Appearance and Themes .
  3. Under Pick a task , click Change the desktop background .
  4. On the Desktop tab, do one or more of the following:
  • In the Color box, select a color.
  • In the Background list, click a background picture. In the Position list, click Center , Tile , or Stretch to define how your picture will be displayed.
  • Click Browse to search for a background picture in other folders or on other drives. You can use files with the following extensions: .bmp, .gif, .jpg, .dib, .png, or .htm.
